Wrestling Frank Stojack and John Bonica

Two greats on the wrestling scene were the Masked Marvel and Frank Stojack.

The Masked Marvel was actually John Bonica who went on to be a prominent anesthesiologist in the country and was on the staff at the University of Washington. Bonica wrestled while he was attending school locally in order to afford his schooling but used the disguise because he was concerned that the image of a wrestler might hurt his medical career in the future.

Stojack, who also played professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers, wrestled in the ’50s and was famous for his “airplane spin” move that was used to defeat his opponents.

He was crowned the “King of Wrestling” in 1954 for winning the world’s Light Heavyweight Championship which was recognized by the National Wrestling Alliance.
